In model oil drilling assemblies pressure pulses of the drilling fluid (mud) are applied to transfer measured data from the downhole motor and the drilling bit to the operator at the surface. The presure pulses are generated by the pulser. This device is placed slightly above the motor and pinches off a part of the free cross section of the drillpipe in the rhythm of the data flow. Presently it has a frequency of up to 1 Hz and an amplitude of 10 to 20 bar. The effects of these pressure pulses on the motion of the drillstring are studied. For this we have added the pulser to a model of A. Baumgart, which describes the complicated and coupled vibrations of the drillstring. Numerical computations will reveal various modes of forced vibrations.
