This paper intends to report the experimental work carried out with brick specimens, aiming to evaluate the effect of salt solution in the capillary absorption of brick specimen in comparison with water. Also the experiment was conducted to define the kinetics ratio of brick samples drying and determine the influence on the degradation of historical material.

The energy of ionic flow in the gradient thermomechanics is analysed in the paper taking into consideration changes in electrostatic forces. In particular, taking into account the balances of energy and entropy, the residual inequality for the considered case is formulated. Finally, a set of physical equations of the process is obtained.

In the work, creep processes are analyzed in case of layered beam. Slips of the layers are described by means of the gradient mechanics. They are considered as causing micro-discontinuity in the stress field. Consequently, the gradient theory gives a description and explanation of the rheological processes in this case. Such a description of the problem is impossible in the classical structural mechanics. The proposed model of process may be also used in a description of deformations in the biological materials.

In the work energy of mechanical and diffusive transformations is analysed in terms of the gradient thermomechanics and calculus of variations. The paper presents the comparison of the geometrical properties of porous material and fibrous material with the same fiber diameters and the radius of capillaries. The comparison shows that the geometrical configuration of the fibrous material compared to the porous material induce the effect of suction of the liquid at the contact of these two materials.

The paper presents the analysis of the polychrome surface changes as a result of photochemical reactions induced by luminous energy flux. After modification of the classical Lambert - Beera formula, for the multiple centre case we obtain an estimation of development of the polychrome surface damage.

The theory of thermomechanical constraints is used in the work in order to derive particular forms of equations for the theory of gradient thermodiffusion. Analizuje się współzależność przepływów cieczy w pierwszym i w drugim etapie wysychania, tzn. kiedy prędkość suszenia jest stała i malejąca. Wykorzystując symetrię równań uzyskuje się ograniczenia na przepływy cieczy w przypowierzchniowych warstwach materiału porowatego.

The relationship of the liquid flow in the first and second stages of drying, i.e. when the speed of drying is constant and decreasing was analyzed. Using the symmetry of the flow equations it was obtained a restriction for the flow of moisture in the layers of porous material.

W pracy podamy sposób oceny uszkodzeń konstrukcji z wykorzystaniem czujników z foli piezoelektrycznej. Ocena polegać będzie na porównaniu zmian pola elektrycznego w czujnikach wywołanego tymi samymi obciążeniami w konstrukcji nieuszkodzonej (na początku eksploatacji) oraz w trakcie eksploatacji, kiedy narastają uszkodzenia materiału konstrukcji. Korzystamy tu z twierdzenia o wzajemności dla teorii naprężeń piezoelektrycznych lub symetrii z równań elektrycznych.

A system structure–piezoelectric sensor is analyzed in the paper. One gives equations describing piezoelectric effect occurring in the stratified construction, which is composed of structural and piezoelectric layers. The piezoelectric elements are considered here as a sensors determining value of damage parameter in the structural layers. Thanks to the symmetry analysis of these equations, the damage estimation in material of structural layers is possible.
