This study addresses some aspects regarding a computer modelling based on three-dimensional Frontal Cellular Automata (FCA) for the simulation of ultrafine-grained (UFG) microstructure development in purpose-designed microalloyed austenite model alloy i.e. FCC structure. Proposed in the present study model is a step forward towards understanding the deformation and microstructure development mechanisms occurring during severe plastic deformation (SPD) processes with high accumulation of the plastic deformation effects in FCC structures. The analysed microalloyed austenite microstructures were developed due to SPD effects. Using the proposed computer model, based on three-dimensional FCA it has been shown that it is possible to predict some characteristics of the FCC microstructures such as the grain size and the distribution of the boundaries misorientation angle. These abilities were proved by the qualitative and quantitative comparisons of the modelling and SEM/EBSD results. The capabilities of the proposed model were tested using experimental results of the wire drawing processes. The paper presents the new original results of experimental studies of multi-staged MaxStrain technology with the microscopic investigation. Basing on data obtained from these studies, the dependencies of the evolution of grain structure and misorientation angle on the accumulative strain and cycle number were obtained in a form of approximation equations. The equations were implemented into the CA model, and MaxStrain technology was simulated. Comparison of the results obtained in experimental studies and simulations shows a satisfactory agreement. Industrial verification of the developed model as well shows a satisfactory agreement.
JMAK (Johnson-Mehl-Avrami-Kolmogorov) equation was adapted to simulation of phase transformations during cooling of bainitic steel tubes. The model was identified on the basis of the results obtained from the JMatPro software. Numerical tests for various cooling schedules showed model’s capability to predict a volume fraction of microstructure constituents of the tubes. The model was implemented into FE code for the simulation of tubes cooling. For the sake of the model capabilities, three cooling methods were considered: (i) free cooling in the air, (ii) cooling with the pressurised air, (iii) cooling with the water mist. Both symmetrical and asymmetrical cooling conditions were considered. The volume fractions of the tube’s microstructure constituents were calculated for each cooling conditions.

W artykule adaptowano model JMAK (Johnson-Mehl-Avrami-Kolmogorov) do symulacji numerycznej przemian fazowych w procesie chłodzenia rur ze stali bainitycznych. Identyfikację modelu przemian fazowych przeprowadzono na podstawie wyników obliczeń wykonanych za pomocą programu komputerowego JMatPro. Badania numeryczne, przeprowadzone dla różnych metod chłodzenia rur, pokazały możliwości obliczeniowe opracowanego modelu, które obejmują przewidywania udziałów objętościowych składników mikrostruktury stali podczas chłodzenia po austenityzacji. Opracowany model numeryczny przemian fazowych implementowano w kodzie opartym na metodzie elementów skończonych (MES), symulującym proces chłodzenia rur. Obliczenia przeprowadzono dla następujących warunków chłodzenia: (i) chłodzenie w spokojnym powietrzu, (ii) chłodzenie sprężonym powietrzem, (iii) chłodzenie mgłą wodno-powietrzną. Dla każdego sposobu chłodzenia, obliczono udziały objętościowe składników mikrostruktury rur.
Przeprowadzono laboratoryjne próby wytapiania stali z renem. Próby wytapiania stali z renem przeprowadzono w trzech różnych piecach laboratoryjnych: otwartym z wykorzystaniem osłony gazu obojętnego i próżniowych z odgazowaniem stali w próżni i uzupełnieniem dodatku renu w atmosferze argonu przy obniżonym ciśnieniu.

Laboratory trials of rhenium containing steels smelting were conducted. The trials were preceded with thermal analysis of ammonium perrhenate produced in Poland, which was selected as rhenium carrier in smelting trials. The thermodynamics calculations were also performed with ThermoCalc and JMatPro computer programs. The aim of the calculations was to evaluate the solidus and liquidus temperatures of chromium steels selected for the investigation. The smelting trials were conducted with three different laboratory furnaces: open one with the inert gas protection and vacuum ones with steels’ de-gazing and addition of rhenium in the argon atmosphere with under lowered pressure. For plastometric tests conducted in Gleeble 3800, the smelts were forged into rods having 15 mm in diameter. The microanalysis of the non-metallic inclusions in the rods did not revealed the presence of rhenium combined in oxides. As a result, one can suppose that rhenium forms solid solution with the matrix. It was shown that ensuring proper conditions, it is possible to smelt rhenium containing steels using ammonium perrhenate as a carrier of rhenium. The protection of this carrier against oxygen allowed for the rhenium yield as high as 87% in the tested steels.

The paper is aimed at the characterisation of the influence of recalescence effect on the structure and mechanical properties of TRIP assisted bainitic steels. A direct result of this effect occurrence is a significant decrease of cooling rate once it is started as a result of bainitic transformation. The influence of recalescence effect on structure and properties was analysed in terms of austenite grain size and cooling rate. It was found out that the kinetics of bainitic transformation is controlled by the growth of bainitic ferrite packets. As a result, the kinetics are faster as austenite grain size is larger. This also has an impact on the recalescence effect. The influence of the cooling rate on the recalescence effect was investigated by cooling rods of different diameters from different austenitizing temperatures. It was found out that increasing cooling rate the temperature range of bainitic transformation shifts towards Ms temperature. The recalescence effect was found to lower the volume fraction of martensite in the steel’s structure. However, its influence on the mechanical properties was not significant.

W artykule opisano numeryczny model procesu gięcia rur z nadstopu niklu DMV 617 mod. opracowany w oparciu o dane uzyskane w badaniach laboratoryjnych i przemysłowych. Analizując uzyskane wyniki stwierdzono, że symulacje numeryczne dają zbliżone rozkłady grubości ścianek rur do uzyskanych w rzeczywistym procesie. W symulacji uzyskano zbliżony przebieg sprężynowania powrotnego do warunków przemysłowych. The paper deals with the numerical model of nickel superalloy DMV 617 mod. tube bending process developed based on the data obtained in laboratory and industrial experiments. Analysis of the results showed that the numerical simulations give similar distribution of pipe wall thickness to that obtained in the real process. The results of the simulations of the springback effect were close to the behaviour of tubes in industrial experiments. The observed differences between modelling and the results obtained in industrial conditions can be caused by the inability to identify all boundary conditions in the real process.
W warunkach laboratoryjnych próbki pobrane z blachy poddano statycznej próbie rozciągania, próbie zginania i próbie kanalikowej w temperaturze otoczenia i w temperaturach podwyższonych.

The results of the investigation of the AZ31 magnesium alloy strip and the samples subject to deformation tests at laboratory conditions and taken from industrially formed automotive bracket were presented in the paper. The laboratory tests comprise tension, bending, channel tests performed at ambient and at elevated temperatures. The investigation has shown that the samples subject to deformation at ambient temperature exhibited poor plasticity. This was due to the operation of only basal slip system and twinning. The plasticity increased substantially while deforming the samples at elevated temperatures. This was associated with the initiation of additional secondary slip systems and dynamic recrystallization which occurred at deformation temperatures above 200°C.

The main objective of this work was to verify the stress relaxation method for the analysis of recrystallisation processes occurring after deformation. The article presents the results of stress relaxation and quantitative measurement of the structure. Based on the obtained data, it was found that the stress relaxation method allows to determine the kinetics of recrystallisation after deformation and to eliminate the impact of recovery in the process of structure rebuilding.
The objective of this work was development of the computer system VirtRoll, which allows designing of the arbitrary rolling line and performing numerical simulations using high efficiency hardware architectures. Selection of the mechanical, thermal, microstructural and phase transformation models, which allow decreasing the computing costs while the accuracy of simulations is maintained on the reasonable level, was one of the objectives of the paper. Thus, metamodel was applied in the mechanical part and a simple finite element approach was used in the thermal part of the hot rolling model. Simulations of microstructure evolution in hot rolling and phase transformations during the laminar cooling were based on modified Avrami equation. The system was designed in the client-server architecture, in which client part is in the form of the graphical interface. This interface allows to design of rolling line. The server part is composed of: i) controllers which prepare computing tasks, ii) middleware layer responsible for launching and monitoring of the computing tasks, iii) the layer of numerical computations. Deal.II library dedicated to solve partial differential equations was used for the time step adaptations. All these parts led to short computing times and additionally allowed parallel solution of the optimization tasks. Simulations of thermal-mechanical-microstructural phenomena were performed for the rolling-cooling sequence and the results allowed validation of the system.

Model przemiany ferrytycznej wykorzystujący rozwiązanie równania dyfuzji z ruchomą granicą międzyfazową posłużył w niniejszej pracy do przewidzenia morfologii i składu strukturalnego stali po ochłodzeniu do temperatury otoczenia. Kryterium pękania Cockrofta-Lathama włączone do programu MES wykorzystano do oceny tendencji do pękania różnych mikrostruktur.

The aim of the work is to develop a new numerical model capable to predict the relationship between microstructure and material properties of sheet products made of dual phase (DP) steels after processes of hot rolling and laminar cooling. Observed microstructure contains the islands of hard martensite embedded in a soft and ductile ferritic matrix. Both the morphology and the composition of components of microstructure is developed by phase transformations, which are related to a scheme of laminar cooling used in the production process. Ferritic transformation model that uses the solution of diffusion equation with a moving boundary was used in this study to predict the morphology and phase composition of dual phase steels. The problem was formulated on the basis of the Second Fick’s Law and Level Set Method, and solved by using Finite Element Method (FEM). Numerical tests performed for different cooling cycles, allowed to obtain the microstructure morphology with different volume fractions of individual phases. Representative volume element obtained from simulation of phase transformation was deformed in uniaxial tension test. Cockroft-Latham fracture criterion was incorporated into FEM to assess the tendency to crack a variety of microstructures. The collected results allowed to determine the relationship between the cooling cycle, volume fraction of martensite and the tensile strength. The paper contains description of the model, research methodology and experimental verification.

The study was aimed at use of FEG SEM and EBSD methods in order to determine the impact of continuous annealing process parameters on changes in strips structure following cold rolling. Heat treatment was conducted in the temperature range 600÷820°C. Moreover, for this purpose, physical simulations were conducted of continuous annealing thermal cycles on samples of strips which, subsequently were subject to static tensile test. Examinations of the structure were conducted by means of scanning electron microscope FEG SEM with broad application of EBSD method. Research capacities of EBSD method were characterized and applied in examinations of recovery and static recrystallization as well as structures formed as a result of phase transitions based on analysis of parameters such as: Kernel Average Misorientation (KAM), Grain Average Misorientation (GAM), Image Quality (IQ) and misorientation angles. As a result of the conducted examinations, it was found that in the temperature range 600÷720°C recovery and static recrystallization of strips occur, which are accelerated along with increase in temperature. These processes differ in the areas with presence of ferrite and pearlite following cold rolling. In case of pearlite, the process of new grain formation is accompanied by carbon diffusion and coagulation of cementite particles on grain boundaries. Starting from the temperature of 730°C, martensite and bainite are observed in the structure, the surface share of which increases along with increase in the temperature of annealing. Following the conducted cycles of heat treatment, the strips are characterized with the following mechanical properties: Rp0.2 = 300÷450 MPa, Rm = 630÷720 MPa, A50 = 11÷17%.

This paper presents the results of the investigation aimed at identification of the optimum conditions for obtaining the maximum volume fraction and stability of retained austenite against mechanical loading in commercial bainitic steel produced by Swiss Steel AG. The volume fraction and stability of this phase is crucial for achieving the advantageous effect of transformation induced plasticity caused by its transformation to martensite during deformation (TRIP effect). The investigation has shown that in order to achieve the optimal TRIP effect in the investigated steel, the decomposition of austenite into bainite should occur in the temperature range 430÷370°C. The range of temperatures of the bainitic transformation in case of continuous cooling of bars depends on their radius. For the smallest diameters, below 6 mm, the bainitic transformation start temperature is close to Ms temperature. However, the occurrence of recalescence effect slows down the rate of cooling which prevents against the martensite formation.

Do analizy wybrano stal z mikrododatkami, stal dwufazową i stal z efektem umocnienia (TRIP).

Numerical simulations of manufacturing of crash box and crash tests were performed for element made of the three selected steels. Two variants of material model were used in the simulations of the crash test. In the first variant earlier deformation of the material during manufacturing was neglected. In the second variant strains calculated in simulations of the stamping process were transferred to the crash box. Results of calculations were compared with physical simulations of the crash test. It was shown that the second variant gives improvement of the results for microalloyed and DP steels. This improvement was not observed for the TRIP steel.
