The infrastructure is designed to solve the problem of access to spatial data maintained by administration, universities and different institutions. Detailed spatial information is available in Malopolska Region to support a broad range of policies. Indeed, map-based information is extensively used as reporting, analysing, and planning tool. In addition, the emergence of the Internet has allowed widespread and low-cost distribution of this type of information and has contributed to better public understanding and awareness of various policy issues. Malopolska Region undertook to execute the project in cooperation with: Cracow Municipality Malopolska Voivodeship Regional Statistical Office in Cracow Regional Office for Water Management Management of Regional Roads, and others. The project is open, which means that new participants may join it. All participants have free access to GIS spatial database and other bases with information about Malopolska Region. This information will be stored on central server. All kinds of prepared cartographic materials will be saved in pdf standard and they will be shared by participants in the project. Thanks to advanced searching it will be possible to quickly find the best suited database for the local government to implement its development objectives. The Malopolska Region has a unique opportunity to make appropriate use of its significant previous investment in extensive and diverse spatial databases. This resource is rich in its breadth and basic content, and through new data modeling and software tools it is now possible to build on this strong foundation to create a regional spatial information infrastructure.
