Present paper is about to present ergonomics as an individual domain of knowledge and to trace its goal. The elaboration consists five parts. The first one illustrates the discussion over the issue of ergonomics. The second one presents criterions of erudition and discusses various ideas of term "paradigm". Third part consists general frames of development of ergonomics in Poland and in the world and three stages of evolution of ergonomics. Fourth part of the paper characterizes the contribution of so-called "Poznań school" into global development of ergonomics. The last - fifth part is a conclusion of paper's content.
