Artykuł powstał na podstawie tekstu wystąpienia na Sesji Plenarnej Międzynarodowego Stowarzyszenia Budownictwa Podziemnego (ITA-AITES) w Oslo w maju 1999 r. Głównym zadaniem ITA oraz narodowych stowarzyszeń tunelarskich w najbliższych latach będzie, obok ulepszeń technicznych, zmiana mentalności w spojrzeniu na konstrukcje podziemne dla szerokiej publiczności i umocnienie zaufania do technik tunelarskich i ich zastosowania w najbliższych latach. Konstrukcje podziemne nic straciły nic na swej aktualności, wręcz przeciwnie - zyskują coraz bardziej na znaczeniu. W kategoriach ekonomicznych prezentują one wciąż rozwijającą się i przyszłościową gałąź przemysłu.

The article was prepared basing on the text of the presentation the Plenary Session of The International Tunnelling Association (ITA-AITES) in Oslo in May of 1999. During the oncoming years, besides technical improvements, the mentality change in viewing the underground structures for broad public and strengthening of confidence for tunnelling techniques and their applications in the nearest future will be the main task of the ITA and national tunnelling associations. Then underground structures did not loose their current meaning, quite contrary, they arc gaining more and more importance. In economic categories they present ever developing and perspective branch of industry.
