Increase of discharge pressure from steam injector by varying the throat cross-section of the mixing chamber with a moving needle is investigated experimentally and theoretically. Maximum discharge pressure was measured in two versions of the injector with the tapered needle inserted into the mixing chamber throat at varying deepness. Highest value of discharge pressure observed experimentally exceeded by about 35% the inlet steam pressure. This result is confirmed by theoretical consideration based on the momentum balance equation for the mixing chamber. In calculations, irreversible losses in the mixing chamber and Condensation shock wave are taken into account by total loss coefficient for which new correlation is proposed.
