The objective of paper is to present some selected problems related to initial design considerations for FPSO vessels. Genaral design issues have been briefly discussed and a proposal for the ship design process has been given. Furthermore, a statistical analysis of chosen design parameters for 140 ships already operating in the world has been carried out, and resulting formulae have been presented. Some presently available relations for the determination of natural periods have been discussed as a part of seakeeping considerations.
