The concentrations of sodium, potassium, zinc, chromium, cadmium, copper, nickel, iron and man-ganese were determined in unfiltered and filtered water samples taken every two weeks from three major lowland rivers in Poland: the Vistula, the Bug, and the Narew. The study was carried out during a three and half-year span from January 1999 to July 2002. The differences between the concentrations of total and dissolved sodium and potassium were very low. For other metals studied the difference between metal concentrations in unfiltered and filtered samples was large, an average difference ranged from 20% to 78% and a maximum was up to 100%.

Stężenia sodu, potasu, cynku, chromu, kadmu, miedzi, niklu, żelaza i manganu były oznaczane w próbkach wody przed jej filtracją i po niej.
