Dynamics of magnetic flux lines and critical fields in high-T[c] superconductors

Magnetic flux lines and the critical fields in high T[c] superconductors are discussed. Theoretical description of type II superconductors based on analogy with the dislocation theory is proposed. Mesoscopic and macroscopic theories corresponding to the asymptotic limits of small coherence length and of high density distributions of the flux lines, respectively, are considered. The effective magnetic behaviour of a superconductor corresponds, under the above analogy, to the effective mechanical behaviour of a dislocated material, including, besides the conservative phenomena, also rheologic and plastic effects. The physical state of the magnetic flux network is characterized by a set of field quantities representing the structure, motion, and the distortions of the flux network, as well as the pinning of the flux lines to the material substrate. Macroscopic equations resulting from incompatibility of the phase of suherconducting order parameter are derived.
