The paper presents the analysis of mechanical properties of implants basing on the finite elements methods (FEM) and experimental techniques of the mechanics of materials. Models of normal femoral bone and hip joint after the endoprosthesis implantation have been worked out. Stress patterns in these biomechanical systems have been determined. Mechanical material properties of polyethylene endoprosthesis cup have been determined as well. The results indicate that exposure to X-rays and ageing leads to hardening of the cups. The influence of geometrical and material feactures of stems and cups of endoprosthesis of hip joint on its adaptation process in the human organism has been discussed. Important mechanical properties of implants, which influence their behaviour in the human organism, have been determined. It has been stated that prediction of biological properties and behaviour of new implants in human body could be based on methods applied in mechanics of materials.
