Abstrakty
The copper phthalocyanine pigment blue is widely used in architectural coatings. Exterior durability of the pigment has been extensively studied in scientific literature, showing good light and weather fastness. On the other hand, studies on interior durability are scarce. In this work, the interior colour fading of high and low PVC water based paints containing phthalocyanine pigment blue has been investigated. Final results show that this effect has been correlated to the presence of tropospheric ozone. Phthalocyanine pigments might interact with ozone leading to chromophore group breakage and consequent colour fading.
