This article briefly presents the genesis of the establishment of a unit educating students in the field of chemical sciences at the University of Opole, the former Pedagogical University of Opole. The development of the scientific and teaching staff, research carried out by employees and teaching methods were discussed. In addition, the condition and development of research and teaching infrastructure and obtaining funds for these activities, as well as obtained qualifications, including third-level education, i.e. doctorates, are described. The composition of the authorities of the Institute of Chemistry, transformed in 2008 into the Faculty of Chemistry, was also presented.
