The paper presents the complexity and importance of energy saving in industry, manufacturing facilities, machine tools and machining processes. The increasing energy demand and the necessity of conscious energy use are highlighted. Problems relating to the reduction of energy consumption by machine tools and manufacturing facilities, the necessity of basing new energy-efficient designs on knowledge, the accurate modelling of power losses and the use of intelligent energy consumption control with special regard to the drives of controllable axes are discussed. of reducing energy consumption by machine tools and manufacturing processes is indicated.
