The article summarizes 20 years of operation of the Women's Affairs Council in the Ministry of National Defense. The author explains the basics of the functioning of this body, its tasks, and competences. What is more, she presents subsequent soldiers, who acted as the chairwomen of the Council in individual years. The publication also presents the most important initiatives and activities in which the Council has been involved over the last two decades.

Artykuł podsumowuje 20 lat funkcjonowania Rady ds. Kobiet w resorcie obrony narodowej. Autor przybliża podstawy funkcjonowania tego organu, jego zadania oraz kompetencje. Co więcej, dokonuje prezentacji kolejnych żołnierzy, pełniących funkcję przewodniczącej w poszczególnych latach działania Rady. W publikacji dokonano również przybliżenia najważniejszych inicjatyw i działań, w które angażowała się Rada na przestrzeni ostatnich dwóch dekad.

Article presents the problem of women’s military service in the Armed Forces of Poland. It shows the proportion of women in the military service, in a historical perspective, as well as today. The article announces the silhouettes of women - soldiers serving in the military corpuses in the period of I and II World War. It presents quantitative participation of women in contemporary Polish army, focusing on issues such as the number of women in the various types of armed forces and occupational groups. Moreover, as the criterion of analysis has been also considered ranks of women - soldiers, years of seniority and role of command, participation in missions abroad, and women in the service of the candidate.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań opinii kobiet żołnierzy na temat ich kompetencji zawodowych. Badanie sfery wiedzy i umiejętności żołnierzy zawodowych jest wciąż interesującym problemem, ze względu na dużą dynamikę zmian w armii i nowe wyzwania, którym sprostać musi personel wojskowy. Kobiety zostały objęte systemem szkolnictwa wojskowego dopiero w 1999 r., dlatego warto monitorować efektywność systemu kształcenia w odniesieniu do tej grupy żołnierzy w celu jego doskonalenia.

The article presents the results of survey among women soldiers on their professional competences. The research on knowledge and skills of soldiers is still an interesting problem, because of modernization of the army and new challenges, which must meet military personnel. Women started to educate in the military schools and academies only in 1999. Therefore, it is important to monitor the effectiveness of the system of training for this group of soldiers, to its excellence.

Zjawisko wzrastającej liczby kobiet pełniących służbę wojskową stworzyło potrzebę zajęcia się problematyką oceny ciężkości ich pracy i badań wydatku energetycznego tej grupy zawodowej. Artykuł zawiera opis oraz wyniki badania określającego ciężkość pracy kobiety pełniącej służbę wojskową na stanowisku dowódcy drużyny szturmowej. Wyniki badań stanowią niezbędne źródło wiedzy z punktu widzenia zarządzania bezpieczeństwem i higieną pracy.

The increasing number of women in the military has created a need to study the problem of assessing this occupational group's work load and energy expenditure. This article contains a description and the results of research on a female assault team commander's work load. The results are essential for occupational safety and health management.

The authors of this article, joining the discussion on this new phenomenon which undoubtedly is massive women’s service in the Polish Armed Forces, draw a broad background of research perspective starting their considerations from civilisation changes taking place in contemporary world. Both are career soldiers, which facilitates them monitoring numerous research programmes and endeavours concerning women service and conducted by research centres and institutions in the army. This knowledge authorises them to form a statement that currently one can only draw a sketch of problem network for future interpersonal research, which as they hope, will be conducted in co-operation with civilian researchers interested in this topic. Women military service appears to be a challenge for institutions and people facing an ambitious task to reconstruct the organisation and introducing our armed forces into the 21st century.
