Celem referatu jest wskazanie możliwości wykorzystania transportu podziemnego w dystrybucji towarów jako skutecznej alternatywy dla zatłoczonego ruchu drogowego. Przedstawia on dwa podstawowe rodzaje podziemnych systemów transportu towarowego - wykorzystujące kapsuły do przemieszczania towarów w rurociągach oraz zautomatyzowane pojazdy przewożące towary przez sieć podziemnych tuneli. Omawia ich historię, zalety i wady oraz główne kierunki zastosowań w systemach dystrybucji. Szczególna uwaga została poświęcona przykładom praktycznych rozwiązań, z powodzeniem rozwijanych i niekiedy wdrażanych na świecie.

The aim of the paper is to indicate an ability of the use of underground transport in goods distribution as an efficient alternative to congested road traffic. It presents two basic kinds of underground freight transport systems - using capsule pipelines and automated vehicles carring goods through subterranean tunnels networks. Their history, advantages and disadvantages are discussed as well as the main directions of applications in distribution systems. Particular attention is given to the examples of practical solutions successfully developed and sometimes implemented in the world.

Increasing urbanization, lifestyle changes, decentralization of business activity and growing use of private vehicles (in conjunction with the failure of public transport) raises a number of negative phenomena, particularly in the urban areas. One of the most promising fields which seem to prevent this disasters is the introduction of underground freight transport, allowing the transport of goods (both to the city and from the city) by a system of tunnels and pipelines. The author browses solutions for underground urban transport, both implemented and planned. The article includes R & D centers engaged in the development of underground transport technology. Based on literature review and analysis the author assesses the prospects for the development of underground freight transport with particular emphasis on urban areas.
