Mental comfort for any individual is an important factor on the way to achieving one's goals and objectives. Based on research focused on young people, and conducted in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic, physical activity positively affects mental comfort and is one of the social preventive measures for maintaining mental comfort. Thus, designing spaces dedicated to young people has become a common social interest. The purpose of the article was to identify criteria for locating recreational and leisure centers for young people. For the purposes of the study, a detailed literature review was conducted, following which the most relevant locational features were listed, defining criteria for evaluating their location. In addition, a keyword co-occurrence network was developed using VOSviewer software. The research was conducted on the basis of the Scopus database. The presented review highlighted the lack of comprehensive studies on the analysis of the location of youth recreation and leisure centers, which is definitely a gap that needs to be filled. Taking such a study into consideration when conducting planning work would certainly be a valuable effort to help creating a friendly urban infrastructure and an effective network of services.

Rzeki, choć zawsze stanowiły istotny element krajobrazu kulturowego, na przestrzeni wieków odgrywały różne role w zagospodarowaniu przestrzennym miast. Historia lokacji osad ludzkich jest nierozerwalnie związana z obszarami rzek i ich rozlewisk: miejsc schronienia i zaopatrzenia w wodę pitną. Jednocześnie związek człowieka z rzekami polegał często na próbach – zazwyczaj udanych – ich ujarzmienia i uregulowania. Wody płynące były i wciąż są narażone na degradację i zanieczyszczenia, co stanowi ogromne wyzwanie dla rozwoju miast i jakości życia ich mieszkańców, także w obszarze architektury krajobrazu.

Stan techniczny placów zabaw dla dzieci w Polsce w aspekcie ochrony zdrowia najmłodszych pozostawia wiele do życzenia. Pełna ekspozycja na słońce, brak cienia, betonowe nawierzchnie i nagrzewające się elementy małej architektury nie sprzyjają zabawie, a wręcz szkodzą. Tego rodzaju miejsca powinny wspomagać rozwój naturalnego potencjału dzieci, edukować, wpływać na podniesienie kondycji fizycznej oraz uwrażliwiać na przyrodę.

Alongside formality, recreation and fostering integration are the two main features that contribute to the attractiveness of urban public space. The aim of this study is to investigate specific types of recreation activity in the most formal squares in Szczecin. In addition, this research analysed the age of users and whether recreation activity involved groups or individual users. The research covered six squares located in the core city centre and at the same time at on the main urban axes. The study is based on multiple direct observations method, as well as historical, iconographic, and field studies. Differences were observed both in the saturation and diversity of activity types in individual squares, as well as in the age of users and the way people congregate. According to the results of the study, both the location of the square and the links to public realm, as well as the elements of its equipment, are factors that influence the sociability and types of recreational activities practiced in the public space.

Atrakcyjność rekreacyjna wraz z integracyjnością są, obok reprezentacyjności, podstawowymi i wymaganymi cechami miejskich przestrzeni publicznych. Celem pracy jest zbadanie występowania określonych typów aktywności rekreacyjnych na reprezentacyjnych placach Szczecina. Ponadto w ramach badań dokonano analizy struktury wiekowej użytkowników oraz sposobu realizacji aktywności (w grupach czy też indywidualnie). Badania przeprowadzono w obrębie sześciu placów zlokalizowanych w reprezentacyjnej strefie Szczecina, w jego ścisłym centrum i jednocześnie przy głównych osiach urbanistycznych miasta. W badaniu zastosowano metodę wielokrotnych obserwacji bezpośrednich oraz studia historyczne, ikonograficzne i terenowe. Zaobserwowano różnice zarówno w nasyceniu i zróżnicowaniu typów aktywności na poszczególnych placach, jak również w strukturze wiekowej użytkowników i sposobie ich gromadzenia. Wyniki badań wskazują, iż zarówno lokalizacja placu, jak i jego powiązanie z siecią przestrzeni publicznych, a także forma zagospodarowania stanowią czynniki modulujące występowanie określonych typów aktywności rekreacyjnych i wpływają na integracyjność przestrzeni publicznej.

The article deals with scientific and practical issues of solving the problem of lost cultural monuments in Ukraine. It highlights the loss of Ukrainian cultural heritage sites as a result of war crimes of the Russian Federation and considers possible ways of recreating them, taking into account existing practice, which will serve as a useful example for the subsequent incarnations of the lost architectural monuments. The questions of the legitimacy of the reconstruction of various objects of cultural heritage in accordance with domestic and international standards are discussed. Some financial and economic aspects of restoring the cultural heritage of Ukraine are considered. The purpose of this study is to highlight the problems of destruction and damage of Ukrainian cultural heritage sites’ after full-scale Russian aggression and directions of their recreation considering domestic and foreign experience.

Artykuł dotyczy naukowych i praktycznych zagadnień rozwiązania problemu zaginionych zabytków kultury na Ukrainie. Zwraca uwagę na utratę obiektów dziedzictwa kulturowego Ukrainy w wyniku zbrodni wojennych popełnionych przez Federację Rosyjską i rozważa możliwe sposoby ich przywrócenia z uwzględnieniem istniejącej praktyki, co posłuży jako użyteczny przykład dla kolejnych wcieleń utraconych zabytków architektury. Omówiono kwestie zasadności odbudowy różnych obiektów dziedzictwa kulturowego zgodnie ze standardami krajowymi i międzynarodowymi. Rozważono niektóre finansowe i ekonomiczne aspekty przywracania dziedzictwa kulturowego Ukrainy.

The article deals with the current issues of interconnection between public health and the quality of water resources. It was proposed to determine environmental safety areas in the basins of small rivers based on environmental morbidity valuation. Four phases are herewith determined: hazard identification, exposure assessment, environmental mortality rate assessment, decision-making regarding the need for implementation and water protection measures. In order to assess the influence of the state of river quality on the health status of the population in the certain administrative region, the impact factor of recreational water use was introduced. The risks related to organoleptic, sanitary and toxicological properties of water; epidemiological water hazard are considered.

This paper presents guidelines for the designation and development of locations for tourism and recreation in the countryside and on the city outskirts. The proposed criteria for designating these areas can be used in the development of strategic and planning documents. Using the METPRET and SWPR methodology in the area of the Mazowieckie Voivodeship, the research allows for the development of proposals to be included in the strategic documents of the voivodeship. These proposals indicated the need to find new areas with the potential for individual short-term tourism and recreation. In uncertain circumstances, an integrated approach to spatial policy is essential as it ensures the ability of urban, suburban, and rural areas to adapt to change and develop sustainably.

In view of global warming, protecting and restoring rivers should be a priority, along with reducing pollution. The article outlines issues related to the use of animals in entertainment, specifically addressing circuses. So far, measures banning or restricting the use of animals in circuses have already been adopted in about 1/5 of the world’s countries, and similar legislation is under discussion in many other countries. Poland has a nationwide ban on the use of wild-born animals in circuses, but there are still about a dozen circuses that use animals in their performances. The total number of animals in circuses is estimated at around 250 specimens. In recent years, Polish society’s attitudes toward the use and exploitation of animals have undergone dynamic changes. The purpose of the work was to provide examples of the use of animals in entertainment, with a particular focus on circuses, and to highlight the main associated problems. By attempting to estimate the magnitude of the phenomenon with regard to the country and drawing attention to the controversies surrounding the topic presented, the authors hope that the outlook presented will become a contribution to a broader discussion, also within science.
