The purpose of this article is to examine the level of poverty in the districts of the Podlaskie Province using multivariate statistical methods, or linear and nonlinear methods. The results confirm that the proposed methods can be successfully used to study the phenomenon of poverty. As a result, the author presents the ranking showing the risk of poverty of particular districts. Moreover, the districts with similar poverty risks were grouped. The paper proposes a different approach to the classification of objects, and in particular looking for similar objects.
