W artykule wskazano na pilną potrzebę interdyscyplinarnego podejścia do problemu bezpieczeństwa transportu poprzez włączenie go do systemu zdrowia publicznego. Zaprezentowano propozycje oddziaływania na bezpieczeństwo w transporcie poprzez sektor zdrowia UE. Szeroko omówiono priorytety dla osiągnięcia bezpieczeństwa w transporcie oraz obecny stan wiedzy naukowej w tym zakresie. Omówiono programy prewencyjne oraz projekty badawcze na rzecz poprawy bezpieczeństwa ruchu drogowego. Scharakteryzowano wysokie ryzyko w transporcie dla indywidualnego użytkownika drogi w świetle aktualnych badań. Przedstawiono prognozy osiągnięcia przez UE celu: zmniejszenia o połowę liczby śmiertelnych ofiar wypadków drogowych. Zaprezentowano problematykę wypadków drogowych i ich ofiar oraz propozycje środków prewencyjnych w krajach o wysokiej kulturze bezpieczeństwa.

The article indicates an urgent need for an interdisciplinary approach to the transport safety by including it in the public health system. There were proposals presented to influence the safety in transport by the EU health sector. The priorities to achieve the safety in transport have been widely discussed as well as the current state of the scientific knowledge in this matter. The preventive programs were discussed as well as research projects aimed at improving road traffic safety. High risk in transport for an individual road user has been characterised, in view of the currents research. Forecasts were presented for achieving by the EU the aim of decreasing the road accidents fatalities by 50%. The problems of the road accidents have been presented as well as their victims and proposals of the preventive measures in the countries of high safety culture.
