NATO Maintenance and Supply Organisation (NAMSO) was established in 1958 due to the North Atlantic Council’s decision. Its executive body is NATO Maintenance and Supply Agency - NAMSA. Poland became its member after entering the North Atlantic Treaty in 2000. NAMSA’s main task is to assist NATO nations and commands by organizing common procurement and supply of spare parts and arranging maintenance and repair services necessary for the support of various weapon systems in their inventories. Moreover, NAMSA assists its members by rendering a wide range of services which include weapon systems' calibration and repair, spare parts deliveries, exploitation materials and ammunition supplies, technical and engineering services, transportation services, negotiations of contracts and their management, ensuring quality, performing other tasks and functions commissioned by the Board of Directors (e.g. mine clearance, destroying ammunition and explosives, utilization of old armament). Despite the fact that we have been NAMSA member for seven years now, Poland’s participation in the Agency programmes is unfortunately very little. Therefore the improvement of this situation should be a priority challenge that the Polish Ministry of National Defence should face. Broadening this cooperation may bring benefits not only for the Polish Armed Forces but Polish companies as well.
