PL

Waszyngton, formalnie zwany Dystryktem Kolumbii, nie należy do czołówki amerykańskich miast pod względem liczby mieszkańców, gdyż ze swą 660-tysięczną populacją znajduje się dopiero na 22 pozycji w Stanach Zjednoczonych, plasując się tuż za Denver (stan Kolorado) i wyprzedzając nieznacznie Memphis (stan Tennessee), choć w kategorii metropolii obszar Waszyngton – Arlington – Alexandria zajmuje już pozycję siódmą, przekraczając liczbę 6 milionów mieszkańców.
