The expansion and maintenance of infrastructure has traditionally been attributed to the States. The systematic increase of the transport needs, however, requires further investment, causes the expand so-called infrastructural financing gap. So, the infrastructure has became the object of interest of investment funds, which are looking for a new targets. The infrastructure investments can take many forms, where the differentiating factors are: financial instruments (equity, debt), investment vehicles (listed, unlisted), investment routes (direct, indirect) as well as project stage, geographic location, revenue source or investment style / strategy. A special position on the market is occupied by the institutional investors, among which the most important are: investment funds, pension funds and insurance companies. These entities are investing in infrastructure directly or by creating infrastructural investment vehicles, like: close or open infrastructure funds, index or debt infrastructure funds, co-investing clubs, alliances or platforms. There is no doubt that the involvement of the infrastructure funds will increase in the future. So, the improvement of quality and quantity of infrastructure and related services should be noticed. At the same time, concentration of the decision-making centers in the framework of funds could lead also to reduction of the market competition.
