The influence of squeeze casting parameters on the mechanical properties of AlZn5Mg alloy

Mechanical properties of castings produccd by the direct squeeze casting method have been examined and the results have been presented in the work. The Rm and A5 distributions have been analysed for external and intemal parts of the slab test casting for various die temperature and pressure of squeezing values. Squeezing has been performed at the die temperature equal to 150°C or 250°C changing the pressure of squeezing from the atmospheric one to the value of 90 MPa. Results of metallographic examination have been presented and the structural changes in castings solidifying under pressure have been assessed in comparison to die castings. Optimum parameters of producing the high-strength castings made of AlZn5Mg alloy have been determined.
