Chitosan-silver nanocomposites – modern antibacterial materials

Abstrakty
Jednym z coraz bardziej niepokojących problemów dzisiejszej cywilizacji są przewlekłe infekcje bakteryjne. Częste i nieuzasadnione stosowanie antybiotyków spowodowało wytworzenie przez bakterie ewolucyjnych adaptacji, czyniąc je opornymi na działanie tradycyjnych leków. W ostatnich latach ogromnym zainteresowaniem naukowców cieszą się hybrydowe materiały oparte na nanocząstkach srebra i biodegradowalne polimery, m.in. chitozan. W artykule podsumowano dotychczasowe osiągnięcia w kontrolowaniu infekcji bakteryjnych z zastosowaniem nanokompozytów chitozanowo-srebrowych.
One of the most threatening problem of nowadays civilization are bacterial infections. Often unjustified administration of antibiotics have forced bacterial strains to develop evolutionary adaptations which make them more resistant for traditional drugs. Recently hybrid materials, based on silver nanoparticles and biodegradable polymers (e.g. chitosan), have gathered much of scientists attention. In this paper we summarize current achievements of chitosan-silver nanocomposites efficacy in bacterial infection control.
