The article analyses the influence of the American Big Tech companies, commonly known as GAFAM (Google, Amazon, Facebook, Apple, and Microsoft), on the global security environment. It indicates the influence is determined by the phenomenon of a ‘surveillance capitalism,’ and that GAFAM companies are not only the top multinational companies, but they are also closely cooperating with their home countries. The analysis shows the emergence of the new powerful actors in the global security environment. In crisis situations, such as pandemic or a military conflict, the Big Tech companies operate not only in the informational area, they are also becoming central elements in the present-day critical infrastructure.
