Artykuł przedstawia stan wykorzystania energii geotermalnej na świecie i w Europie według danych z lat 2013–2015. Pochodzą one z raportów krajowych (prezentujących sytuację w ponad 80 krajach) przygotowanych na Światowy Kongres Geotermalny w 2015 r., a także z opracowań Europejskiej Rady Energii Geotermalnej, dotyczących lat 2013/2014 i 2015. Na uwagę zasługuje trwający od kilkunastu lat wyraźny wzrost wykorzystywania energii geotermalnej zarówno na świecie, jak i w Europie. W przypadku naszego kontynentu są to m.in. realizacje wielu projektów ukierunkowanych na ciepłownictwo sieciowe, kogenerację w układach binarnych. Towarzyszą im wprowadzane w kilku krajach systemy wsparcia oraz właściwe rozwiązania prawne. Wskazano także na przewidywane główne dziedziny zastosowania geotermii i kierunki rozwoju metod badań i technologii w nadchodzących latach.

The article introduces the status of geothermal energy uses in the world and Europe according to the data from 2013–2015. They came from the country update reports submitted for the World Geothermal Congress 2015 (presenting the situation in over 80 countries, as well as from the market reports of the European Geothermal Energy Council for years 2013/2014 and 2015). A continuing increase clasting for several years in the use of geothermal energy both worldwide and in Europe (especially in heating sector) was notworthy. In the case of our continent many space-heating oriented projects (district heating systems), cogeneration systems (applying binary schemes), introducing the adequate support measures and appropriate regulatory solutions favorable to geothermal energy were carried out in several countries. The anticipated main fields of geothermal applications and directions of development of research methods and technologies in the coming years are also indicated.
