Od kilku lat następuje renesans domów towarowych w obrębie centrów miast. Powstają tam eleganckie przestrzenie handlowe dla marek o światowej renomie. Znakomitym przykładem jest dom towarowy Benetton w centrum historycznym Rzymu. Dla potrzeb tej ekskluzywnej marki przebudowana została eklektyczna kamieńca Palazzo ex Unione Militare wzniesiona w XVII w. u zbiegu ulic Via del Corso i Via Tomacelli.

A bold reconstruction project of Palazzo Unione Militare is a combination of the historical heritage (the seventeenth-century facades) and a modern experiment of rebuilding the palace. The intriguing steel and glass design, which passes through the four floors, is crowned with the expressive form of the terrace’s restaurant roof covering. This is the heart of the building, which then brightened up at night, reminds of a lighthouse seen through the frame of windows in raw facades, above which the terrace additionally shimmers with the colourful illumination. The steel and glass structure focuses the optical weight during the day as well, being not only a vertical communication with a bypass and service rooms for commercial space.
