Autorzy próbują ustalić kierunki modernizacji Sił Obronnych Izraela (IDF) na podstawie analizy programów przyjętych po 2015 roku i ujęcia ich w szerszym aspekcie uwarunkowań bezpieczeństwa państwa. Przeanalizowali dwa najnowsze programy modernizacji - „Gideon” i „Momentum”, przyjęte na lata 2016-2019 i 2020-2024, a także wdrażany w tym samym czasie plan rozwoju wojsk lądowych. Ocenili poziom zaawansowania realizacji wymienionych programów oraz perspektywy ich wdrażania w kontekście pandemii COVID-19 i dynamicznie zmieniającego się środowiska bezpieczeństwa na Bliskim Wschodzie. Wnioski z analizy pozwoliły na ustalenie, że proces modernizacji IDF jest ukierunkowany na dostosowanie ich struktur i liczebności oraz metod i środków walki do zagrożeń o charakterze asymetrycznym.

The authors, based on the analysis of programs adopted after 2015, attempt to determine the course of modernization of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), and put them in the broader context of Israel’s security environment. The analysis includes two most recent IDF modernization programs: Gideon and Momentum, adopted for the years of 2016-2019 and 2020-2024, as well as the land forces development plan implemented at the same time. The authors assess current implementation progress of these programs as well as the prospects for their further implementation in the context of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and changing security environment in the Middle East. The results of the analysis lead to a conclusion that the IDF modernization process is aimed at adjusting the structures, manpower, means and methods of warfare to combat asymmetric threats.
