The article presents the most important information on the Panama Canal. Following issues have been discussed: the number of large vessels that passed through the Panama Canal in the years 2002–2013, as well as the size and structure of the freights by main trade routes through the Canal, the type and size of freights and charges for the passage in the years 2012–2013. Plans for its expansion until 2016 have been also presented.
