We are living in the time when radical Islamic fundamentalism more and more becomes a global threat aiming at "building a State of God”, i.e. taking over the world. Therefore the author finds it important to recollect two totalitarian ideas that also aimed at conquering the world in the 20th century - Hitler’s fascism and Stalin’s communism and compare them with a current situation from the stabilisation and security point of view. Although all these ideas differ and prefer different forms of fighting [fascism - armed fighting; communism - non-armed fighting (ideological, scientific, technical economic); fundamentalism - armed fighting using terrorism], they allow drawing rational conclusions that, as history shows, they tend to achieve the mentioned above aim - stabilisation and security, without the need to take advantage of radical actions. According to the author, the most important endeavour is the need to make the world community aware of the significance of the existing threats and the necessity not only to eradicate the existing antagonisms among non-fundamentalist countries but also develop a close co-operation between them. The ways of coping with existing threats and difficulties should be found in using indirect forms based on the compromise between unilateralism and multilateralism. As President A. Kwaśniewski pointed out at the participants’ meeting of Initiative against Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction in Cracow on 2 June 2004, “new methods should be developed promptly to ensure international cooperation on security with stability” (TVP news of 2 June, 2004). It means that the most important problem nowadays is fighting, both armed as well as non-armed against radical fundamentalism that requires the co-operation of the rest of the world, the basis of which is compromise not quarrels.
