Abstrakty

EN

An experimental study of melting of a pure non-metallic material (99% n-octadecane, Pr =~ 50) is reported. The process, affected by natural convection in the liquid and conduction in the solid, occurs inside a rectangular enclosure which two vertical sidewalls are maintained at uniform, but different temperature either. Particular attention has been paid to obtain experimental data that describe shape and position of the solid-liquid interface as well as volume fractions of the solid and liquid at the final steady state regime.
