W niniejszym artykule dokonano przeglądu najczęściej stosowanych metod wydzielania fal upałów i mrozów (choć publikacji poświęconych falom mrozów jest dużo mniej niż prac poświęconych falom upałów). Opisywane metody połączono w siedem grup, reprezentujących różne podejścia metodyczne do problematyki wydzielania fal.

Heat waves and frost waves are classified as extreme weather events, yet to this day they are not precisely defined and no unified method for their calculation exists. In many articles dedicated to these issues, the authors introduce their own definitions and methods to calculate it, what makes their work incomparable with others. In this paper, the review of most common methods of defining heat waves and frost waves has been made (although there is less works dedicated to frost waves than to heat waves). Described methods were divided into six groups representing different methodical approach to defining waves.
