The paper includes the results of investigations of the axial force and shaft displacement of a single-stage radial compressor. It is a gear compressor with the pressure ratio Π=l.52. It has been found that a change in prewhirl causes changes in the axial force sense and in the values of the clearance in the axial bearing. During surge the shaft displaces in the whole range of the bearing clearance.
