Extreme loading events associated with climatic conditions can have a severe impact on building structures and may lead to local damage that can trigger the instant failure or progressive collapse. One of the most effective tools of safety assurance is to install an efficient structural health monitoring system that could inform about the actual state of the structure and warn in advance about forthcoming dangerous situations. In this paper, the WiSeNe^MONIT monitoring system is presented together with its pilot installation. The system was customized for the purpose of monitoring of a large span steel roof and installed in the hypermarket located in north-east of Poland. The data recorded from the system devices are evaluated for periods between December 2011 and February 2013, and presented in the paper together with some practical observations.
