All kinds of space experiences with the emphasis on urban space are usually defined in terms, typical for the visual perception. However, the phonosphere, which contains its own lexical code, as a configuration of symbols and signs, becomes not only a culture texts, but also one of the most important aspects of composing space, giving it such characteristics as dynamicity and diversity. The question of the significance of the sounds in urban space returns today, together with the key issue for the „second” modernity, such as multiculture, identity and affiliation. The speech is going to present an analysis of the sound environment as an individual acoustic territory of a person, who on one hand is trying to shelter oneself from the noise, but on the other hand is the permanent source of the noise. Parallel to this – a person becomes an active creator and an interpreter of the urban phonosphere.
