Modeling and simulation methods applied to support decision-making process : the voice in the discussion

This article describes the theoretical background and defining possibilities to applying computer modeling and simulation methods to support the military decision making process. Simulation modelling and analysis, the numerical support of the decision making process, is necessary in the battlefield when the time to make up one’s mind isn’t enough to take under consideration all circumstances. All of the decision making process problems like: delivering information, preparing variants, war game methods and even later rehearsal action are diversified but it is possible to support these by the use of mathematical algorithm and modeling and simulation methods. This article is intended as a short overview of the theoretical modeling and simulation basis. Firstly we would like to present a theoretical approach to modeling and simulation. Secondly we show some problems of consideration during the decision making process where the modeling and simulation methods like the Monte Carlo method and others could be used to simplify a decision making. Thirdly we present military tools which can be used. Especially the use of these methods in the analysis of the variant (concepts of operations).
