W artykule przedstawiono politykę Unii Europejskiej w zakresie gospodarowania zasobami wody w kontekście adaptacji miast do skutków zachodzących zmian klimatu. Zmiany te wpływają na zasoby wody, a najbardziej dotkliwą konsekwencją są powodzie i podtopienia oraz epizody suszy i niedobory wody. Zjawiska te powodują liczne skutki o charakterze ekonomicznym, środowiskowym i społecznym. Odpowiedzią Unii Europejskiej na zagrożenia związane ze skutkami zmian klimatu jest prowadzona polityka, w tym odnosząca się do zarządzania zasobami wodnymi; w jej ramach wskazywane są priorytety adaptacji do tych zmian. Polityka UE zobowiązuje kraje członkowskie, w tym również Polskę, do sporządzania planów uwzględniających sposoby ograniczające negatywne skutki powodzi i susz. Zrównoważone gospodarowanie zasobami wodnymi sprzyja ograniczeniu podatności miast na obecne i przyszłe zagrożenia związane ze zmianami klimatu.

The paper presents the European Union's policy in the area of water resources management in the context of adaptation of cities to the climate change. The climate change exerts an impact on water resources, and the most severe consequences of the observed change are floods, flooding, droughts and water shortages. These phenomena have a number of economic, environmental and social consequences. The European Union's response to the threat related to the climate change is the policy carried out in this scope, including water resources management, indicating adaptation priorities. EU obliges the Member States, including Poland, to draw up plans providing for methods of mitigating the negative effects of floods and droughts. Sustainable management of water resources contributes to Iower susceptibility of cities to the existing and future threats related to the climate change.
