The cultural landscape comprises of the both the physical landscape and human activity. Sound cannot be created by the settlement itself, it is a result of people’s activity. I will describe the sphere of sounds in a traditional village in the Kurpie region, taking one whole day as a frame of my paper. My presentation will also show how the world of sound has changed since the 1950s. What seems important here is the role of particular sounds in organizing the life of the local community. With time some have faded away, and some new came into being. These new sounds could sometimes replace the old sounds, or else they gained value in their newness. They entered the symbolic sphere, an important aspect of building the local identity.
