One of the most crucial issues in the process of integration into the European Union is implementation of EU directives in respect of water supply and sewage disposal and waste management. There are many discrepancies between the Polish regulations and those in force in the European Union. The analysis of direct and indirect costs of adjustment to the EU requirements revealed that the costs of law making and training will be almost nonexistent in comparison to the necessary investment outlays. Those are mainly due to the need to build and modernise waste-water treatment plants, to construct a sewerage system and to improve the situation of municipal landfills.
