After military operations finished on the territory of Iraq in 2003, Iraqi authorities’ fundamental task was to create their own security forces to guarantee democratic processes development in the country. Apart from coalition forces, the tasks connected with recreating military education system and fostering command and control of national security system have been performed by NATO Training Mission - Iraq (NTM-I). The NTM-I role is shown through NATO officers and non-commissioned officers’ performance who fulfil the mentor (advisor) function in Joint Staff & Command College (JSCC) situated in Ar Rustamiyah, in Baghdad’s suburbs. The article stresses the contribution of NATO personnel in both preparing the staff for the didactic activity and implementing solutions facilitating the training process. Activities undertaken by them are stressed which are connected with their personal engagement with the college training activities, activities’ coordination and strengthening the cooperation between the JSCC and other military training centres, as well as unification of the training process in various colleges and military centres located in Iraq. Moreover, the problems of JSCC functioning conditions and the course of didactic – training process in the college are discussed. The role currently performed by the college in training officers of tactical level for the Iraqi Armed Forces is stressed and its directions of development is presented.
