Górnictwo, jako jedna z najważniejszych dziedzin egzystencji ludzi, podlega historycznemu rozwojowi i prze-kształceniom. Rozwój ten odzwierciedla wszystkie najważniejsze uwarunkowania stymulujące i ograniczające naukę, technikę oraz sferę społeczno – psychologiczną. W niniejszym artykule przedstawiono najważniejsze fakty początkowych etapów historycznego rozwoju trzech aspektów działalności górniczej związanej z bezpieczeństwem pracy: przyjmowania do świadomości faktu wybuchowości pyłu węglowego, rozwój bezpiecznego oświetlenia wyrobisk górniczych oraz powstanie i rozwój indywidualnych aparatów oddechowych dla ratowników górniczych.
Mining, as one of the most important fields of human existence has been developed and changed in the course of history. This development reflects all the most important conditions stimulating and limiting science and technology as well as the social and psychological factors. This article presents the most important facts from the initial stages of the historical development of the three aspects of mining activity, related to occupational safety: acknowledging the explosiveness of coal dust, development of safe lighting of mine workings and the creation and development of personal respirators for mining rescue services.
