The role of energy storage systems in balancing renewables

EN
The article presents the financial feasibility study of using energy storage systems for balancing renewable generation, based on a case study of a medium-size wind turbine cluster. Information on the most promising electricity storage systems and their operation parameters is also provided. For their optimization both the technical and economical requirements have to be considered, including the capital expenditures and operational costs. The operation control algorithm for the energy storage systems is based on the signals from the balancing market.
