Rolnictwo ekologiczne w krajach Europy Środkowej i Wschodniej znajduje się na znacznie niższym poziomie rozwoju niż w państwach Europy Zachodniej. Na rynkach jego produktów występują podobne problemy, jakie występowały w krajach zachodnioeuropejskich w latach osiemdziesiątych i dziewięćdziesiątych XX wieku. W ostatnich latach nastąpił znaczny wzrost powierzchni upraw ekologicznych w analizowanych państwach, utrzymuje się jednak niski poziom rozwoju rynku żywności ekologicznej, wynikający głównie z niedostatecznego poziomu rodzimego popytu.

The article presents the state of organic farming in chosen Central and East European countries. The level of the organic food market development in these countries is also discussed. While discussing the issues, the weaknesses of that market and possibilities of their reduction were indicated. There were also shown the main features of organic markets in each of the analysed countries, especially emphasising the significance of exports to the Western Europe.
