The structure of paper and board production in Europe in 2013 was as follows: printings and writings – 41.9%, packaging paper and board – 45.9%, sanitary and household paper – 7.7% and others – 4.6%. The biggest producers of sanitary and household paper were Germany (20,3%), Italy (20,0%), France (11,5%) and Great Britain (11,5%). According to preliminary data, 2014 total paper and board production in Poland was 4222 thousand tonnes. Household and sanitary paper was 12.8% of the total. It should be stressed that over the last six years the constant increase of this paper grade share can be observed (Fig. 1, 2). It results among others from new investments and modernization of existing capacities as well as from market demand. Central Statistical Office of Poland states that in relation to 2005 toilet paper production rose by 38% in 2013 (Fig. 3). Figure 4 shows production of kitchen towels from pulp, paper, cellulose wadding or sheets made from primary fibers. In relation to 2012 the slight decrease (6%) can be observed in 2013. Domestic consumption of sanitary papers is impacted by imports and exports. Figures 5 and 7 present imports and exports according to CEPI classification in 2014. It should be noted that international trade data were estimated on tha base of 11 months of 2014. Similarly as over last years the biggest buyers of sanitary products is Germany (61.1%) followed by Czech Republic (9.3%). Figure 6 illustrates exports structure (CN 4813). The figures show that the biggest exported groups of products are toilet paper (33%) and paper towels (20,1%). Germany is the main buyer (69.9%) of toilet paper. The like situation is in case of paper towels (65.1%). As regards imports, Italy dominated in 2014 (23.7%) followed by Germany (21.5%). Toilet paper (32.7%) and paper towels in rolls (21.05) dominated in imports in 2014. Figure 8 illustrates imports structure in 11 months of 2014.
