Abstrakty

The author presented the chronology of events dividing it into two periods: Period I including July 1953 - 27th June 1956, and Period II - Poznań protest, describing in detail the events among the strikers and actions of the power apparatus suppressing the rebellion. During the events in Poznan 53 people were killed or died of wounds (including 2 Polish Army soldiers and 3 Public Security Office workers). 573 people were hospitalised, 275 of whom were sent home after dressing their wounds. 17 women and 9 schoolchildren under 14 were wounded, as well as 26 soldiers, 5 policemen and 15 Security Office workers. The events of June 1956 is a very complex problem in the post-war history of Poland. Both in the time preceding mass demonstrations in the city and later reactions were the resultant of the situation comprising numerous various factors that led to the outbreak of a civil war character.
