Crosses placed at the site of a fatal road accident are part of a worldwide phenomenon of roadside memorialisation. The evaluative and behavioural aspects of the practice of erecting roadside crosses in Poland were the subject of our research. The purpose of this article is to seek answers about the influence of the variables ‘religiosity’ and ‘gender’ on the approval of placing a roadside cross at the site of a fatal accident and on the reactions when noticing such a cross. Based on the statistical analysis of the representative questionnaire, we contribute to the quantitative research on the public’s perception of roadside memorials and to the international debate on the safety impact of roadside memorials.
