Abstrakty

Powiększenie w 2023 roku grupy BRICS o sześć państw wydaje się zwiastować wzrost jej znaczenia. Niemniej jednak formacja ta ma luźniejszą formułę niż ugruntowane międzynarodowe instytucje i nie odgrywa większej roli w globalnym układzie sił. Dowodzi tego przykład Indii. W artykule odwołano się do teorii realizmu neoklasycznego, by wykazać, że członkostwo Indii w BRICS nie przynosi temu państwu większych korzyści w sferze interesów narodowych i nie przekłada się na efektywniejsze działania na arenie międzynarodowej. Wyjątek stanowią pożyczki banku BRICS (New Development Bank) na cele projektów infrastrukturalnych w Indiach.

The decision to enlarge the BRICS with six more states seems to herald the rise in its significance. However, BRICS represents a much more loose form of cooperation than the established international institutions. More importantly, it does not play an important role in the global power play. One of the ways to prove this is to look at the format from the perspective of its significance to India. Applying a Classical Neorealist approach, the author attempts to prove that India’s membership in BRICS does not yield any larger benefits for New Delhi in terms of India’s core national interests, and does not translate into a larger array of effective actions on the international stage. However, one major exception to this conclusion is the significance of loans which BRICS’s multilateral financial institution (the New Development Bank) has offered for the sake of infrastructure projects in India.
