Studies on the effect of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) characterised by different parameters on living organisms have been carried out for many years. The interaction between the electromagnetic radiation emitted by a variety of devices, such as mobile phones, computers, microwave ovens and X-ray apparatuses on a human organism is multifaceted. Different cell components and structures of an organism may become the target of electromagnetic radiation. This article presents basic information on the interactions of electromagnetic fields (EMF) as well as the biological and health-related effects induced by them. The results of the conducted experiments may be helpful in the determination of standards and principles adequate to the risks developed after an exposure to EMF and also may help in the introduction of appropriate prophylaxis.
