Politycy - na szczeblu zarówno rządowym, jak i samorządowym - często twierdzą, że budowa dróg przynosi sama z siebie rozwój gospodarczy. Tymczasem nie ma wiarygodnych danych, by potwierdzić ową tezę w praktyce. Przeciwnie: zdarza się całkiem często, że ogromne pieniądze topione są w „drogi donikąd”, bez szans na zwrot.
