The article makes an attempt to clarify the meaning of a term used in the context of operational actions and introduced by Carl von Clausewitz, i.e. centre of gravity. The author provides an example of operations conducted during the Yom Kippur War (1972), the Falklands War (1982) and the Desert Storm operation. By analyzing specific military operations, the author points to the center of gravity and its role in the art of war. He also concludes that identification of the center of gravity at the strategic and operational level is crucial in the process of operation planning and conduct.
